I'm sorry if this has been covered already. I couldn't find any threads. I don't know anything about music and I have GarageBand. What I want to do is sing lyrics and put music behind it. Anyway, I have the tabs (for piano) to the song I would like to sing and I am wondering if I am able to enter the notes without actually recording the keyboard or real instruments. So, basically, can I just plug in the notes and have the program play them? I hope that makes sense. I don't know the terms for anything. I'm just a beginner and right now, I am playing around. In a few months I will be taking lessons for bass guitar; hopefully my knowledge for music will improve. Thank you for any help or advice.

Use MIDI. (Check the GarageBand manual.) This does exactly what you want.
You can input notes with the mouse, by clicking on a screen that looks like a piano roll (if that means anything to you!). The result is a rectangle which you can drag horizontally to resize or move. This affects note length and timing.
Dragging it up and down alters pitch - the actual note. Putting two or more rectangles on the same vertical line gives you a chord.
MIDI doesn't produce noise, just note information. You will be able to choose an 'instrument' to which the programme will send this MIDI information. This produces your piano, guitar, drums or whatever.
Good luck and have fun!

Thank you very much. I am very happy to hear this. I have a problem with ever finding the information I need in the manuals. Thanks again for all the info. smile.gif I'm so excited to try this out.
