I am trying out the software sequencing thing... its much different than a MPC, thats for sure. I'm not ready to give up yet though, it could get interesting.
My question for you intelligent souls is dealing with Reason and Recycle. Typically, I start a track up in Reason and switch back and forth between that and Recycle when I need to import loops. The only problem with this strategy is that when I go back to Reason (everytime) the midi in does not respond, at all. I have tried everything that I can think of, even checking oms. I swear I am not on crack and yes, initially when I open Reason, the midi does work. If this helps, this is my setup: Roland Juno 106 or Yamaha CS6X connected via midi to Digi 001, Reason and Recycle software (as well as Protools, which I do not use during the creation of the track), Mac G4 DP 550 (overclocked) Any help with this stumbling block would be greatly appreciated. |

QUOTE I start a track up in Reason and switch back and forth between that and Recycle when I need to import loops This won't answer your question, but...why do you "switch" between the two apps?... The main interest in using Recycle and Reason is that you can create loops in Recycle (alone), creating some sort of beats library and you can later import directly those beats into Reason via DrRex (without having to switch). From then, once imported, you can rearrange those beats if needed by transfering to track (in Reason) the selected beat->transfer to track, go to the editing section of Reason's sequencer and rearrange freely each "slice". Just a thought... Regarding your Midi problem, next time it happens, go to Reason's preferences->Midi->check your settings (do likewise with the Advanced Midi menu). -------------------- |

For instance, I had a loop that I had imported from recycle (using the method you described) but once I put it on the track, I felt like I wanted to slice it differently. Then I had to go back into recycle and once I returned, no midi. I also checked those settings and made sure that they were the same and still no dice. Anything else I could possibly be missing?

try phatmatik.
it does all that recycle does but as a vst plugin. meaning, you can adjust your loops "real-time" from within your sequencer at any stage of your tracks developement. -------------------- one for all and all for one...

for anyone with the same probs:
Why does Reason sometimes lose it's MIDI connection when I switch to another MIDI application? It has turned out that Reason can lose contact with OMS if OMS is not set to run in the background. To fix it, do this: Close Reason Open the OMS setup application In Edit -> OMS MIDI setup, enable the 'Run MIDI in background' option. Save and quit OMS setup Launch Reason again. |
