do you have exp[erience using garageband with the FireBox?
OR

ME:
DO I NEED A new larger faster, Hard drive?
I have been recording wtih my Firebox for about 1 year now...
I usually use the Cubase LE that was bundled with it
on my iBook G4 1.2Ghz 1.25GB Ram the small 30GB HD is partitioned into 2 roughly halfs, the main drive with software and OSX
System Version: Mac OS X 10.3.9 (7W98)
Kernel Version: Darwin 7.9.0
After having problems with pops and clicks a few weeks ago, in CubaseLE recording 4 tracks 2-mics and 2 line ins....
I wanted to record a live braodcast of the Hot Buttered Rum String Band for the Willamette Valley Folk festival off the Radio...
I used my firebox with Peak 4 ......
I thought it went ok, but then uopon listening there are pops and crackles (again like a vinyl record)
not FM noise....
I can't seem to pinpoint if the pops are really in play back oron the "master" recording?
I am very sure that they are on the master....
any tips or suggestions?
DO YOU ALWAYS have luck using _____________ Software?
please let me know
how I can get successful recordings
I have had some successes but its been hit or miss
thanx for your help!
peace

I have a Firebox that sometimes exhibits similar problems (perhaps the same ones). It will sometimes record crackling that sounds like vinyl or like plastic wrap being crinkled. I've been searching for a pattern to what causes it, and don't think I've found it.
I have a dual G5 and I use Logic Express and Garageband, and the problem has happened in both. I think it perhaps DOES have to do with the Firebox, or, more specifically, with how it syncs to my Mac/or to Core Audio.
Sometimes tinkering with the the Audio/Midi settings and/or Logic's audio driver will do it. Other times, quitting Logic and restarting it will do so. Sometime, I have to restart my Mac. In 90% of cases, restarting my Mac gets rid of it, but occassionally I have to restart twice or some such.
It's pretty annoying, no?
EDIT: Getting a new hard drive won't necessarily solve the problem--I record to a second (non-system, non-Logic) hard drive on my 'puter and I still sometimes get the problem.
Hey, amigos.
Yeah, Presonus's Firebox has caused me lots of grief recently. It seems to work great on my G4 laptop, but on my desktop G5 Quad, I get pops, clicks, noise, etc. all the time. At least three times a day, I have to pull the firewire cable out, wait for CoreAudio to reinitialize, then plug it back in for it to work. At first I thought it was a defective box, so I sent it back to PreSonus for a repair, but they sent it back saying it worked perfectly. There must be an issue that remains unresolved with the G5 and the Firebox (I have a pre-Intel G5, by the way). Does anyone know of a more reliable audio interface? Thanks!

Works fine on my iBook G4/800. Sync got lost a couple of times but at least on my case the problem's always been with the FW-cable. It's kind of a too stiff, and if the cable itself moves, it will move the FW-plug also causing problems with connection. Didn't need a big push to move too much. Otherwise no problems at all.
