hi there.I have a powerbook, and i travel a lot.Well the main thing that is not to good in laptops is the speed of the disk(5400rpm) , which, for audio and images proposes is too slow, especially working with samplers and midi. You should buy an external firewire disk(try the smartdisk 40 gb-7200 rpm,it's very small and totally portable).I have projects with 24 audio tracks , but with 1 or too 2 midi tracks. The powerbooks can handle very well audio , but when you go to audio and midi projects the thing starts too get busy.
Hopefully Motu launched the Traveller, go and check it (www.motu.com) , it's ideal for travelling people.
Powerbooks and Motu interfaces work damm fine ,you get very small latency even using the internal core audio properties.
Oh my Powerbook is a 15 inch 667mhz with 1gb ram.
the thing is , to try too release as much as possible the computer of hard processing.
1-So buy as much ram as possible
2-Get a good external audio interface (firewire or USB 2.0) (ex:Motu,Hammerfall)
3-A faster external disk for storage(even for safety reasons since portable computers can suffer damage during travelling so you can keep your projects in that disk)

Bye,good journey
