Your filing System/Organization techniques, Question Options

Hello, fellow Mac-Daddies/Music Addicts!

I am about to embark on the huge task of sorting & reorganizing all of my Mac's harddrive files.(yeeeech)

Could any of you 'Compulsive Neat Freaks' out there suggest any tip's on how to best organize and file all of the many accumulated assorted programs, samples/sound files, sequencer(ie Cubase) files, sounds, arrangements, VST/VSTi's, ect,,,ect,,,that can so easily get out of control and clutter one's HD?

I am looking for a simple and logical way to sort this mess, and a system to best keep it all sorted as I add on more sounds, songs, applications, ect...

If you have any 'desktop-snapshots' of some examples of you HD files and how you have systematically tree'd them out, that would be a huge help! You can send these with any suggestions/tips ect,,,to: anthonyroberz@mac.com , if you wish.

Any tips/sugestions/advise will be very much appreciated!

partitioning is the key!

Have at least 2 partition:
1 for your boot system
1 for your documents
If ou not allready own a second HD for audio (prefered) add a third partitions for the samples only.

You could choose to put all your applications on the first boot drive, or separate them on another partitions.

You could also have another partions for a (music-only) second system..

Theses shemes offer the following advantages:
- your VITAL datas (the documents) are on a separate 'disk' that can easely be backuped
- you're audio disk can easely be defragmented (without rebooting from another partition) , and stays 'safe', on a separate partition
- you can have a normal systeme to boot from and another music-only-safe-system-which-never-crash on another partition...

etc....
It's up to your needs!
