Hello. I am totally new to any of this. I hope I'm posting this in the right forum. Sorry if I'm not. Anyway, I just started playing with Garage Band. What I want to know is if I can take a sample from a regular song and isolate one instrument. For instance, if I want to use a bass line from, say, Joy Division, am I able to zero in on just that, without the drums or anything? I've been teaching myself how to use Garage Band and haven't really found anything to address this issue. I don't even know if it can be done, but I figured all of you would know. wink.gif Thanks for putting up with the noob.

The answer is no. Certainly not with GB, and not with any other device. You might get close, but you will be dissapointed. Whenever you take something away from a track to get at something else, you will lose sounds (or fequencies) in the instrument you are trying to isolate.
