Looking to get audio into a new Mac Pro Tower thru USB. All I need is a way to connect a stereo phono preamp (and its two RCA outputs) to a USB A/D converter of some sort. I'm not recording thru mics or multi track devices, so the usual Apogee Duets, M-Audio, etc, aren't for me, neither is the Griffin iMic. There's gotta be some simple way (OK, I can default to the 1/8" miniplug input built into my Mac) that is of very high quality. Any suggestions? I saw a device called an Altoedge USB, anyone know much about it? Many, many thanks in advance!

Well, the next consideration then is quality: Do you want 24 bit 96K I/O (ADC or DAC) quality? If so, forget USB = too much jitter and quality suffers.

Personally, nothing is as good as FireWire audio interfaces ... USB = forget about it.

(Mercenary announcement: I work for USBStuff.com and FireWireStuff.com and have been doing tech support for both for years. USB MIDI adapters are just fine, some USB output only devices (DAC) are quite good. But for input, capture or what ever you call it, no USB device works as well as the cheapest, lowest quality FireWire device. That's why you don't see USB in professional recording studios, except for MIDI I/O.)
