I bought a Presonus Firebox last fall when the price dropped. Nice unir. I was unable to open Audacity however getting this arror message:
Error while opening sound device. Please check the output device settings and the project sample rate.
I found the audacity problems and this seems to be unresolved at the moment. The lead developer says that they hope to support 'other audio devices' soon. Not a direct quote but something like that.
But the Beta version 1.3 doesn't work either. Other folks are reporting gray screens in Tiger, crashes, etc.
Too bad, i find Audacity to be a great app. whereas logic seems like overkill for me.
I'm using demo Amadeus. I don't what else is out there...

I've been using Audacity with a direct hookup from a Behr. mixer to the audio in on my G4 tower. This has been ok since I am mostly making live demos of compositions. I've been asked to contribute to a cd and I need to improve my recording ability. I know Motu gets a lot of praise, but the 828 seems like overkill. Or maybe a good investment, I've been waiting for Apple to drop the other shoe with a FW box. ThankQ
I've been following this forum on and off trying to find what fit my budget etc. Today I got a ride to a music store (I have poor vision) and bought the tascam usb unit. I was just going to get a midi interface Midisport but this seemed to have all I needed to 'jump up' from direct recording mic to mixer to /1/4/out to 1/8 input on my g4 tower using Audacity. The connection on the back of the computer wasn't very good with the long adapter.
I couldn't get the Tascam installed. Cubase seemed to work only in Classic and wouldn't recognize the US-122. The extra software that came with the unit was WIN only. I can read a manual but just couldn't get the unit to send out, using audacity with preferences changed. I used Midi in and Mic in. I couldn't get anything through the headphones either. I downloaded new drivers from Steinberg but then Cubase wouldn't go at all.
Reading the reviews at zzsounds makes me wish I had waited for the new MAc firewire, but searching through the archives this unit gets pretty good notices.
