Hi,

I'm looking at running the above on a 1GHz iMac with 768MB RAM. Am I along the right lines for 16-20 tracks of audio & MIDI?

Cheers folks,

Nep.

sounds tight. you might have to use the freeze function in logic 6 if you have a lot of tracks with massive effects. but all in all seems like a good start.

happy recording,

jeremy

I'm using a G4 1Ghz 17" Powerbook with Logic Audio big box upgraded to 6.0, and I have no complaints..

except that I don't know anything about Logic.. and I've had it for a year.....grr... I can't wait for Logic Audio Pro to come out.. Apple makes things so much more intuitive... Using logic so far feels like an engineering application, rather than a creative process.

but I suppose it's the learning curve really. I want it to be as intuitive as Final Cut Pro is for making movies. That's waht I'm really hoping for.

but that's a whole other topic.. .sorry smile.gif

zelen0,

logic pro will have the same complexity. there has never been really any change from version to version with logic. they have just added features.

don't think that they are going to change the interface or simplify the process of using such a powerfull full featured application.

here are some sites that might help you with logic.

http://community.sonikmatter.com/cgi-bin/e.../ultimatebb.cgi

well happy recording,

jeremy

zelen0 - I second editbrain's post. Logic Pro is simply a new name for Platinum, plus all the virtual instruments. Emagic have (wisely) simplified their product line to just two versions: Pro and Express. It'll still be as fiendishly complex - ie, it won't suddenly morph into Garageband.

I used to sincerely wish Apple would sort out the ease of use with Logic, but actually I don't any more. Having persevered, read a lot of websites, posted questions on the Sonikmatter board, absorbed the manuals and bought Dave Bellingham's Logic Audio Workshop book, I'm finally getting it. And it's a beautiful, beautiful thing. Occasionally maddening, but generally beautiful.

Seriously - put in the time, don't get stressed or annoyed by the way Logic works sometimes and you'll be surprised how intuitive it can be. Really. smile.gif

I really appreciate the posts, and the links you two have given me, I'll take a look.

I posted on these forums in the hardware section, as I just bought a new MIDI interface and no matter what I do, i can't get Logic to work with it. Although it says clearly it's supported, it's a PreSonus FIREstation 410 (audio/midi firewire interface), using Panther 10.3.2+latest SU with Logic Audio 6+latest. But so far nobody knows about that either, so I'm probably gonna return this product, even though it's great.. angry.gif

everything is just so frustrating with MIDI, especially since I'm brand new to both, Logic and MIDI.. grrrr

Logic is very complex for a new midi user... it takes time to understand it.

just curious.... does the tranport window show any incoming midi when you attach a midi controller? It should display incoming notes in the transport window if ti is working. I am just asking because if you see midi signals on the transport but not able to play and record with midi... it might just be a midi routing problem in your environment and not fault of the Firestation.

if you have a simple setup like computer and one controller. you should have the out of the controller into the the in of the midi box. then you start logic and all is well. if logic doesn't see the controller you can run the setup from logic audio > preferences > start logic audio assistant. it will ask you some question. then setup a simple environment for you.

but like i say. out of controller to the in of the midi box.

happy recording,
