So I've follwed the instructions for this and I can see the folder in the exsp24, but the sf2 file inside the folder is not clickable. Bugger.

Any ideas how to get this monkey to auto convert to exs?

[background]file is sonic implants brush drum kit. Saved as sf2 into library\application support\sampler intruments\brush drums\brush drums.sf2

I know you guys can't resist helping a moron...

I've just taken the leap and dumped my trusty old 350 MHz PC and bought a lovely, shiny G5. laugh.gif Was a Cubase boy, but have decided that Logic would be best with a Mac - sadist for learning?

Anyhoo, my problem is - I can get audio out (via line out) from internal sounds (eg bleeps from changing the main volume on the G5 desktop), but no audio back out from the audio line in.

Audio MIDI Setup (AMS) looks fine - set to 44.1KHz, 16 Bit in and out - no mutes. In AMS the Input Volume, Device Mute and Play Thru are locked out? Is that normal?

I'm running Jaguar awaiting Panther. I have an Emagic MT4 + a Yamaha CS1x and Akai S2000 apparently working fine. In the Sound settings of System Preferences, the G5 is registering an input signal from my CS1x on the audio meter, but the audio doesn't come back out - even though those beeps come out when I change the main volume on the desktop.

Please friends, help me out with this. And please Apple, don't tell me your G5 built-in sound card isn't full duplex... wink.gif

In hope,

Anyone know if Logic Audio and Gold 6.3.1 are optimised for G5s? I know Emagic have said that Platinum is, but that's one expensive bad boy.

Any ideas?

Cheers...

I'm planning on buying a dual 1.8 GHz G5, but I can't find a ref anywhere about whether they will run Logic + soft synths etc without an additional sound card.

Do I need an additional sound card? Other than greater I/O capacity, what would an additional sound card allow me to do? If I'm doing all my processing, sequencing and recording inside the G5, is a sound card necessary (other than the increased I/O)?

Cheers.

I'm thinking of converting to the iMac from PC, but I'm concerned from stuff I've read that I'd need an equivalent to a PCI soundcard - which they don't accept do they? Reason for thinking iMac rather than standard G4/G5 is price.

But can a 1Ghz iMac deal with 16 tracks of stereo audio plus VST plugins without any extra hardware?

For good quality sound to record out to my AKAI D12 hard disk recorder - plus MIDI - can an iMac really cut it? If so, what extras (MIDI /audio interfaces) would I need? And is it sensible to use Cubase (SX?) on the Mac or is it a poor second to say Logic or Pro Tools?

Would really appreciate some help. Cheers.

[My 'stuff' background: I cut up loops and beats with ReCycle etc and layer them into VST as audio while sequencing a Yamaha CS1x and AKAI S200 sampler all ending up in an AKAI D12 hard disk recorder (including my mixed down VST audio tracks). But I need more power and my current set up is on its last legs]
