I'm pretty new to macs and computers really, but i am having a big problem and it does not let me move forward. Ok am a DJ and I have never used a computer to record. Now the thing is that I am trying to record my yinyl records onto the computer as i mix it ( I have a 1200 turntable and a vestax mixer hooked up up to an maudio interface). my problem is that when i record into the computer the result is a crappy sound. Now i don't have the beat ear but i know the sound is crap. i try to use the the equalizers and things like that but nothing. Now to add to that problem is that I also want to ad aiff, wav, mp3, etc. whatever the file maybe to the rest of the tracks that I put in, but the quality is so different in them that you can tell as you hear the mix. I need help bad, I want to drop mix cd's but can't. Can someone help me? One more thing. I also need something to split my tracks, is audacity good?

maybe these is not a very clever hints from me - but i think your vestax mixer should have a master- and a record-output - use the record-out. if possible try some other device instead of your m-audio, a minidisc-recorder or something like that. a well-balanced gain should also be very helpful. acoording to your search for a good sample-editor you should perhaps tell us which system you are running...

just my 2c

Perhaps it has an effects send. That's designed to loop into and effects unit and back to the mixer, but you can use it to send a signal to the computer from a specific track or tracks. You really need a mixer that can do that so that you can record what you want and monitor what you want. Or two seperate mixers. good luck
