 G5 1,6ghz Running Pt Digi 002, Will it do? |

I'm thinking about getting a 1,6 G5 for my digi 002 system. My question then is very simple: Can a single processor G5 run the system properly - compared to, say, a dual G4? (I know that a dual G5 will do the job but then there's the money issue.)
Hope anyone can help? |

Hi Mikkel,
I don't run an 002 - I have to say I'm a tad jealous that you have one.  But - I have run ProTools on my G4 733MHz single processor machine quite happily. It depends on what your demands are. If you want dozens and dozens of tracks with multiple plug-ins, you may find the G5 1.6 struggles at some point - but - if you are not that demanding - it'll be a great machine for you. I don't know if ProTools is multi-processor aware - maybe someone else can answer that - so please take that into account. Have fun PT |

Hey Man was happening? i have a digi 002R w/pro tools V 6.1.2 with a single processor G4 w/1 gig of Ram and my system runs fast and flawless, so to answer your question, Yes single processor is all you need, especially with a G5. If you have any other questions of compatability you can always go to www.digidesign.com and read up...ok hope this helps, take care

Thank you both for your answers! Hmm maybe I should just go for a G4 then? But I've heard they make a lot of noise - what's your experience with that?

NOISE!!!!!!!! What Noise.........lol

I was running Digi001 on a G3 350mhz for almost 2 years and it did fine... was limited on how many plugs i could use but that was it really.
You would have to really load up those plugs and automation to almost extreme overkill IMHO to bog down your system.  There are a few new soft synthst that zap a lot of the juice from any computer though like Moog Modular etc and will limit things maybe. -------------------- ----------------------------------------
