Hey all, Im so excited that im gonna get an ibook here in a few but I dont want to get overly excited an hesitant & need help finding a great audio interface for me so let me tell u my situation. My buddies & I have a home studio & ill be traveling back & forth now that Ill be starting school in a bit. I want to be flexible enough to do some sessions by myself & not have a problem intergrating with the home setup. Its based around a g4, digi 001 using Pro Tools of course, Logic & DP. Now im very adament about using pro tools for my audio especially for recording my band & have been checking out the Mbox. The focusrite pre amps seem to be a plus! but Ive also been eyeing this M-audio Fire Wire 410 and the fact that it offers a Midi i/o is great too since I do have a triton le and an mpc2000xl that Id like to sync it up with. Someone did also suggest to me just using Pro Tools free....mmm. I dunno, Im just so flustered right now! help

=) my best friend and closest emusic collaborator's nick is 'skinnywhitegeek'. you guys should be in a cartoon together!

anyway, yeah the ibooks look great don't they? my gf is about to buy one. unfortunately, i have yet to pull the trigger on a laptop soundcard so i can't recommend one specifically. whatever your choice, you'll want to be certain that folks are having good results running it under panther.

i'm torn because personally i'm ready for the usb soundcards to get the hell out of the way and make room for some more fw offerings. i had been pretty excited by the fw410, but i wish it had more than two ins for that price.

somebody at this thread briefly mentions that they have an ibook and a fw410 running great (which is good news because m-audio is known for problematic drivers and below average tech support): http://www.macmusic.org/agora/forums/?act=...t=9301&lang=EN&

if you're adamant about using PT, then you may as well just stick with digi hw and get the mbox if it's best for your budget. nobody really badmouths the mbox- and in the soundcard world that amounts to a positive review =)

when USB cards became freely available there is a common prob with bandwith and using MIDI and AUDIO at the same time .
I use a G4 17" Tye book with a MOTU 828 and have no problems running 18 outputs at the same time.

If your mates are running Pro-Tools then it would be ideal to just get the M-box as Focusrite pre with the 32 track LE software cant be bad.
Any other card is going to require software platform to run.

Usb has leveled out now so it has become alot more stable.
Unfortunatly M-box wont supply you with a midi port so another port on your I-book will be lost to a midi interface and that means you cant plug in your mouse.
Trying to edit in any software using the trackpad will be annoying.
