I just purchased a MAC G4 Dual 450/640mb, ect. I also have a pc with a SHITLOAD of PLUGINS.
For Example, Native Waves GOld Bundle, Time Bandit, Orange Vocoder, Tc Electronics Plug-ins, Bitheadz Pharazer, Native Pro52 model synth, Tons of VST/ DirectX plugins, Waldorf Attack, Steinberg Model E, Alboretu-Hyperism, Steinberg Mastering edition, Waldorf PPG Wave V2, Prosoniq Time Factory, Ect. I would never have enough room to list them all.
I am using Cubase VST 5 for sequencer. I know I will probably have to buy the Mac version for cubase for it to run on the mac, because I don't think the pc version will run on the mac. My question is if I buy the Mac version of Cubase could I use all of these plug-ins with the mac version of cubase just by transferring the plug-ins from my pc to my mac. Or is there a seperate version(mac and pc) for these plug-ins.
I though that plug-ins can be used on either platform as long as the sequencer that is using them is for that specific platform. If you can help with this question in any way I would greatly appreciate it. I would hate to have to buy all new mac versions of these plug-ins(over $5,000).

Not to sure about the VST ones as I do not use Cubase on the Mac, I think that software companys develop 'versions' of the plugins for each platform.

I would imagine that the PC VST ones will not work as they are .dll libary files and I would imagine Macs have there own version of the .dll file (Not a Mac user until Friday)

Your DirectX plugins will not work as DirectX is a PC only thing (as far as I am aware), unless there is some type of convertor.

You are right in assuming that your VST PC version will not run on the Mac and you will have to buy a new version, though if you are moving to Mac then I have been told that Logic or Digital Performer will be your best bet, your plugins will also work if you get the Mac VST versions on both programs (though you will need a program like VST Wrapper for running them in DP)

One option you might have is to contact the manufactures of all your plugins and you might be able to send in all your S/N's and they might give you a special upgrade/crossgrade price.

Hope this helps,

The pc version will not work, but most of the plugs you mention come with installations for both platforms on the CD. (ahem....cough, cough)

As long as you have the CD you have both versions.

Are you implying geedoubleyou that our friend Nova might be using 'cracked' plugins? wink.gif

I didn't SAY that, I just pointed out that most come on cross-platform CD's.

He can get a crossgrade from Steinberg, he would have to return his PC CD and dongle. (no dongle for the Mac version).

He can also crossgrade to Logic or DP.

I have Cubase and DP. Just starting to learn DP.

I couldn't help it!!!. I was at morpheus. Searched under software and there was a TON of free plug-ins(practically everything) for the pc. Nothing for the MAC. Not a problem, I would sacrafice buying everything for the MAC, instead of using the free stuff for pc. MAC is just better for audio production, HAND DOWN..... The only REGISTERED software I have is Cubase VST 5, Waldorf Attack, Steinberg Model-E. I contacted steinberg about possibly trading platform software for cubase. It would cost me $159 for mac version and I would have 30 days to return pc version. Or just purchase the mac version for half price and have them on both pc and mac. I was thinking of keeping Cubase VST for the pc and purchasing Logic Audio for the MAC. But that would be ANOTHER sequencer that I would have to learn to use. I just starting learning Cubase about 2 months ago. Before that all production was made with Cakewalk PA9(Mastered this one). Alot more precision can be accomplished with Cubase, Logic, DP, ProTools, ect. Cakewalk is very easy to learn, but doesn't get into detail like the vst sequencers. What would your thoughts be on using 2 different sequencers on 2 platforms. Or would it be better for me to have cubase on both pc and mac?. Better stop here I am writing tooooo much...Your thought Please!!!!

Well at least you are honest Nova, at least you have a licence for Cubase, most of the PC users I know don't even have that.

You are (fortunatly?) having the same dilema as me, what sequence to get for the Mac. At the moment my funds will not stretch any further so I m sticking with ProTools until I can afford something, but then again I mainly deal with audio. Anyway I was thinking if I got Cubase for the Mac (just the normal one) then I could transfer stuff between my Mac and PC (The PC is a latptop so I could have a portable studio). However when speaking to the guy at a shop about getting a Mac and suggesting getting Cubase, he suggested against it and told me Logic would be a better buy, I explained the cross platform thing but he said that Logic would be better, also seem the general advice from most Mac users, get either Logic or Digital Performer.

Hope this helps.

I own Cubase and DP3, I'm just learning DP.

Cubase is good, Steinberg seems to be more interested in adding new technology, instead of fixing old bugs.

The ReCycle, Cubase combination is powerful. I used it fix several Pro tools sessions. Midi sequencing is good, but I love the sequencing in the now FREEWARE Studio Vision Pro. Hopefully someone will take it out Gibson guitars hands.

But the next version of DP will add .rex support.

I suggest that you lurk on the users groups, none of the software is perfect, but you can get good results from any of them.

For FREE Mac VSTs check out the VST Hangar http://iobsolete.ca/thehangar/

The MDA stuff is great.

'sequencing in the now FREEWARE Studio Vision Pro. '

Studio Vision is FREEWARE? Cool, I need a basic sequencer but haven't got the cash at the moment, my Mac is coming with a 001 as I use Pro Tools a lot so I have audio covered.

Thanks for letting us know about that though, I really don't like cracked stuff as it often messes up systems so I avoid it.

Yeah it's out there, it hasn't been upgraded for 2 years though and only supports VST1, but most plugs work fine.

at the opcode site all of needed files are not present. It was intended for previous owners.

Check the Opcode users group http://www.topica.com/lists/opcode-users/

Some where in the list is the link to the Vision users site where the needed files are posted.

I had given up on Vision when I lost my hard drive and I wasn't going to pay $30 for a new response code for unsupported software.

When I first learned about the freeware Opcode still had the demo version posted. The demo contained the needed support files.

The current download contains the Pace protetection free app.

When you get the demo replace the demo app with the new one from Opcode, make sure that you have the correct Arcadia sound engine for your processor, and you're in business.
