Best Audio Set Up For My Mac G4, Homerecording Options

I've just recently purchased an older G4 that runs @ 400 mhz. has a 20 gig HD and 320k RAM.

I want to reformat it and use it for a home studio set-up only. I will add much more memory and am wondering which Logic Audio program would be best for this compute with 9.2 for the OS?

I'm leaning toward Logic 5.. Good choice or no?

If you are limiting yourself to Logic, then I don't see why you wouldn't go for the latest version (6)...

OK, so I'll go with Logic 6. Question is, do I have enough machine to run it properly?

As far as I can tell... see Logic's minimum requirements here.

You might want to consider an dedicated external firewire drive for audio recording/playback.

Looks like I'm good system wise and I see Logic suggest a seperate HD also.., any suggestions there? (I'm a refugee from Windows btw, still not to familar with Macs..)

for hard drives... consider Glyph drives. They are a bit pricey compared to average HD but they were setup specifically for music production. I have a 30gig firewire Glyph drive that has never caused me a problem in the 2 plus years I have owned it. Its been a great addition to my Digi001 system. You might do just as well with cheaper drives but I can't recommend any.

Based on some recommendations here and there, I bought an 80G OWC Mercury Elite last December that has given me no problems.

Price seems pretty reasonable.., Mercurys about $100 less.

To be honest though, I'll use the existing drive for now until I'm actually able to create a decent demo, cause I'm a newbie ay homerecording in every sense of the word.., I did make a effort a few years back but that was on a Gateway PII, and it was just one freeze-up after another so I'm still at square 1 in a sense..

I'd call myself a newbie as well, strictly home recording, and probably very simplified at that compared to most. I don't record more than one track at a time and generally have no more than 12 tracks in total. So, the demands on my system are pretty low, and I used my internal drive (on an iMac G4/700) for 6 months without any problems until I saved enough money for the external. Good luck!

As far as adding more RAM, any suggestions? Is Kingston advisable or not?
