Just a quick thought as I've only been speed reading this thread:
It couldn't be a file path problem could it?

Could you try getting the file running from your system HD, then export it/archive it as whole project to the other drive, and then re-open it?

If you fitted the 2nd drive yourself, did you check the jumper settings on the drive itself?

It should be set to "Slave". If its set to "Master" it would cause the problems you describe.

Ok, here is some info:
System Disk:
40 GB
Audio Disk:
320GB capacity

Hmm, 40 gig system disk? Lemme guess, did it come in the G4? Bet a buck it's 5400 rpm... Seriously. Why not install everything on your 320 gigger and get on with the tuneful melodies worry free? Quick, easy, unless you wanna run other systems (10.4, Linux), you wouldn't even have to partition it. No disrespect intended, but the day has arrived that your 40 gig Sentimental Favorite would be better suited for downloaded scientific literature and excess porn.

Lunar you're right on all accounts there, haha. But, the only reason I haven't updated it that much is because I intend on upgrading to a new mac once I'm ready to spend the cash. Right now I think the drive is set to cable select. I will try setting it to slave. Aside from that I'm beginning to think it may be hardware failure. (Maybe even this brand new drive!) Shortly after beginning this thread I turned on the G4 to encounter an error I didn't want to see. When I login I get "DISK INSERTION. The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." If I go to disk utility and repair it - it says it was repaired successfully. But, it seems to remain useless.

So if that helps out any of you techies then let me know.

And is is my first time using this forum and you've all been quick to help.

Thank you!

UPDATE:

I was able to get the drive "working" again. I set it to "ignore ownership on this volume" and was able to use disk utility to repair it. Now when I start up, everything is fine and it shows up on my desktop just fine. With audio recorded to the system disk today - which works and opens off of the system disk...I copied that logic project over to the Audio drive. From there it will not open. When I try to open it, I get the error "The document "filename" could not be opened. This is being presented as a logic pro error, not an OS error. So I thought I would try to copy the file back to the system disk with a different filename. I renamed the project folder and copied it. When I tried to paste it to my system disk I got the error: "The finder cannot complete the operation because some of the data in "Bass#01.aif" could not be read or written (Error code -36)"

I am still at a total loss on what my problem is...

Anyone?

Here is one more note on my last update. When I paste, it begins to copy the project. It successfully copies the first audio file, which is "Audio 2#01.aif" which is a track in the project which had no recording placed on it. When "Bass#01.aif" is the first file it tries to copy (alphabetically), this is where the copy fails.

Ok, at this point I may be beginning to confuse a lot of you. I hope you are following ok.

Here is some interesting info I'm falling into with much experimentation...

I have found maybe there is some sort of error/conflict with how I have saved my files.

I will call each project by a different number to help avoid being unclear.

Project 1 on the second "audio drive" will not open at all.

Project 2 is an empty project I have created just to try and test stuff out. It saves and opens fine from the audio drive. If I close Logic and try to open Project 1 by clicking on it in the finder, it still fails. Without closing the program logic I try to open Project 2. It now fails. If I close logic and double click project 2 in the finder, it fails. If I then close logic, and my finder window. Then reopen finder and locate Project 2...I double click it and IT OPENS!

What on the earth am I doing!?!??!?!?!??HELP!
