years ago i owned several Yamaha QY MIDI sequencers: QY-10; QY-20; QY-300; etc...
i really enjoyed the ability to quickly set a chord progression in a certain style, then practice over it. there must be some software for the Mac that accomplishes this? NOT Garageband! for example, i want to be able to: 1) set a chord progression, like: | ii | V7 | I | I :| 2) pick a style: Jazz 3) pick a key: A ...then press PLAY an practice over top. More of an accompaniment tool than a sequencer or studio, I suppose Any suggestions? |

For the Mac there isn't a whole lot of competition for Band In A Box. If you look in the software section of this site you'll find alternatives like Jam Wizards and MyJazzBand, but I think you'll find that BIAB blows them away. BIAB is a great application for a very reasonable price. You won't regret getting it. Go ahead and download the demo if you haven't already.

Be aware that the current version of Band in a box is not compatible with the current MacIntel machines, if you have a PowerPC cpu it will work.

I've had very little problem running BIAB 12 on my MacBook Pro. The program isn't very demanding on the processor, so running slower doesn't seem to be an issue.

Hi there, have you seen the new demo for garageband 08, the new features looks quite good for band in a box type stuff, haven't tried it, but £55 for ilife08 is always a good price...
Good luck. Jake. |

While I've had no problems running BIAB V.12 on my intel iMac, it's exciting to see that PGMusic is FINALLY planning to release a UB update with lots of new features for Mac, probably by the end of the year . . . just in time for Christmas, perhaps?
