whatever works is good..I know people who run Failight CMI's from Atari 1040's..
it doesn't sound like your rep[air shop are up to much..generally a PC repair centre won't have a clue about Apples, have a look in the phone book and find a local mac tech who can come see you. You may also get a book off amazon or similar which can take you through some stuff. -------------------- Simon Flinn

There may not be anything wrong with your G4. As stated above, are you booting up in OS 9? Running Classic won't do. In my experience, nearly all my crashes in OS9 were due to running out of RAM. Anything less than 512 is insufficient for music and graphic work IMHO.
After that, setting up drivers and studio set-up in OMS can be frustrating. You must do everything in the correct sequence. |

The only way to run some midi software in Classic (not OS 9, Classic!!!) is to use a MIDI interface not recognised by OS X and you have to be able to install OMS in classic, which can be tricky. It's just a way to create difficulties instead of making thing simpler (it's a trick for the Nord Modular editor).
In OS 9, my major source of crashes was Explorer and Outlook… Next it was ATM. (just did the trick again last week the b…d) Deigh, if you want some help, we really need to know which mac you are talking about, imac G4 just won't do… if it's not a speed demon, it's better to run it under in OS 9, as OS X will just pump its juice and it'll crawl. There is NO reason it shouldn't be able to talk in MIDI with your keyboard as long as we can tell you the best solution. Also, if you have freeMIDI installed over OMS and you are not using any MOTU software, just get rid of it. it'll just f…k things up nicely. Also, to install OMS and the interface properly, uninstall OMS and the eventual driver completely then install OMS first. OMS is temperamental so be nice with him. -------------------- Our Classifeds • Nos petites annonces • Terms Of Service / Conditions d'Utilisation • Forum Rules / Règles des Forums • MacMusic.Org & SETI@Home

Thanks, but as you can see I've given up!!! have just spent too long trying to get midi. My G4 came back from repair and promplty crashed again, so I'm pretty disallusioned about Mac at the moment. My iPod lasted thirteen months and then crashed completely, fortunately I'd taken a five year extended warranty so it was replaced. This is not good enough, when I'm playing professionally I can't have my equipment failing like that.
I've gone back to my LC3 and powerbook 190 which although slow and small screened at least work! I have another request. My OSX is version 10.1.5 and I can't upgrade QuickTime without upgrading to 10.2. Where do I get upgrades from ? |

Deigh,
You should be able to get OMS from this link: Open Music Systems Download v2.8.3 The iMac should work just as well as the PowerBook especially with USB for the UX16. The CD-ROM that ships with the UX 16 has the 2.6.3 version of OMS on it. Sorry to hear you are having such a bad run of luck with your Macs. I had just the opposite, similar issues with the PCs I had. To upgrade to Mac OS X v10.2.x you are going to have to find a store that still is stocking 10.2. You may have better luck with Mac OS X v10.3. Currently Mac OS X v10.4 is shipping. Try Amazon or a local Mac reseller/retail store to get a copy of the upgrade software. Usually runs about $129USD. Hope your Mac problems are solved soon. Good luck. deacon Ce message a été modifié par deaconblue - sam. 11 juin 2005, 23:19. -------------------- |

Thanks for comments. I was hoping to get into garageband to see what it can do, I've reached a bit of a stalemate with midi on Encore. I need to add extra voices to the music and at the moment am having to do it by guesswork rather than skill.
I've been using the PB100 setup now for a few years and it sounds OK. however I want to progress as it is a little boring to me as it stands. Have you any idea where I can download .mid files of standards? All I can find is midi music which I dont want. I'm prepared to upload my arrangements of evergreens in exchange. Regards Deigh |
