Has anyone here had any luck using a UC-33 with ProToolsLE ?

PTLE's control surface documentation specifies that, to use a 3rd party control surface (ie. one that does not have a personality file) one should select "JL Cooper CS-10" and set up your controller accordingly, They also provide the controller data info for you to use. I think the controls they provide are NRPN data but I'm just not sure.

Has anyone messed around with this, or another "unsupported" controller with PTLE ?

Otherwise the UC-33 works great with Live, Reason, even Logic, but no luck with PT.

Thanks,

I found a slight work-around, using the PC-1600 personality, partial functionality.
Faders, mute and pan, no transport. I will be glad to post the CC numbers later if anyone is interested.

cheers,

I figured out the programming for emulating the CS-10, works with PTLE.
Again I will be glad to post how to do it if anyone is interested.

Cheers,

Here it is, documented for posterity:
First, make sure you have Legacy Controllers for ProTools, MIDI Controllers guide, and
Hex to Decimal conversion chart.

To emulate PC1600 with ProTools:
Set faders 1-8 to CC 01-08 on your UC-33.
Pans are CC 09-17. Mute buttons are Note-on 00 thru 08. I have not figured out if there are controllers for the Transport.

You can set up multiple PC 1600's in 'Peripherals' of PT on different channels and jump from faders 1-8 to 9-16 ect. by using different global channel on UC-33.

To emulate CS-10:
First select CS-10 in 'Peripherals' setup for ProTools.

Look in 'Appendix A' of PT controller guide.

They specify "Bfh cc vv" Well, the 'Bfh' messed me up, it is '191'. All that means is, 'ctlout on channel 16'. Knowing that, you can now basically ignore that command.

Using the wheel data provided and the hex to decimal chart, you can now convert any parameter provided in this chart.

Example:
Fader 1 '40h' is CC 64, Fader 2 is CC 65, ect.
Assuming you know how to assign controllers on your UC-33, assign fader 1 on your UC-33 to CC 64, and set channel to 16 for that fader. Fader 1 in ProTools now responds to fader 1 on UC-33.

To set up the transport buttons do as follows.
Example:
Play Switch '16h' is 'CC 22'. Assign play button on UC-33 to 'CC 146'
then press 'program' button on UC-33 and set to '22' and 'channel' to '16'.
Assign all button type controls in this manner, by using 'CC 146'
and 'program' as your appropriate CC number for that parameter. All
controls are on channel 16.

Here are some of the parameters converted:
Faders, 1-8 are CC 64-71
Mute buttons, are CC 00-08
Stop, CC 21
Play, CC 22
Record, CC 23
...and so on.

I have not figured out yet how to get faders 9-16 with PT in CS-10 mode.

I hope this all makes sense, I spent days getting my head around this.

Good Luck,
