Not sure where exactly to post this one, but here goes: I'm working with a band which has been recording multitrack demos onto a Yamaha MD8 (multitrack minidisc recorder). In order to mix and process the work, I've been transfering the tracks into Pro Tools on my Powerbook, with my MBox. This basically works, *but* because there are 8 tracks on the MD8 and I can only record 2 at a time with the MBox, I have to record 4 times to get everything into Pro Tools. I don't mind the work, but getting everything time-aligned can be a bitch. However, the MD8 does allow sync via MIDI TIme Code --MTC (or MIDI Clock). I had hoped to be able to synch the MD8 with Pro Tools (or at least accurately trigger them together), while playing back from the MD8 and recording into Pro TOols. This *should* allow me to accurately position the record points so that the tracks are time-aligned when brought into Pro Tools in multiple passes (4 passes x 2 tracks/pass = 8 tracks from MD8). I brought my Midisport Uno USB MIDI interface to connect my laptop with the MD8, and configured the basic options in Pro Tools and on the MD8. I could control either system from the other one - play, stop and positioning functions worked fine, with the MD8 controlling Pro Tools or Pro Tools controlling the MD8. But I can't figure out how to *record* this way. Nothing I tried worked for record (I could trigger record on the MD8 from Pro Tools, but I need to get material into Pro Tools, so this doesn't help). I should further clarify that I'm using the MIDI connection only for control/sync. Audio capture is from the analog outs of the MD8 to the analog ins on the Mbox. Has anyone gotten this to work, either with the MD8 or something similar? Should what I'm trying to do be possible -- is my basic premise solid? Any help/advice/info would be *greatly* appreciated. Thanks!
