Here's a little cheat that I used today after searching fruitlessly for a solution to use my own samples in Logic Express 7.

I had need to modify and use custom versions of a snare, cowbell, claves, shakers, etc. I have a Sample CD which ad samples closer to what I needed than Logic.

Here's what I did:
1. Modified the samples (which were in .wav format) in Adobe Audition on my PC to my liking and saved in .aiff format.
2. Downloaded a free EXS24 sampler instrument to install into the EXS and mangle with my own samples. In this case it was called Ambient Gretsch. You could just as easily use a sampler instrument that you don't care about.
3. Opened Finder and browsed to Library\Application Support\Logic\EXS Factory Samples\Ambient Gretsch.
4. Took note that there are 13 .aif sample files in this directory for the 'Ambient Gretsch' instrument.
5. Renamed MY 6 created samples as the first 6 filenames in the directory. For example: in the directory there were the files 'JP sn.aif', 'JP crash.aif', etc. I renamed my snare sample as 'JP sn.aif'. I renamed my shaker sample as 'JP crash.aif'. It makes no difference that the filename may not accurately describe what the actual sample is...it only matters that when the EXS sampler goes looking to load its files that it finds the file names it is expecting.
6. Replaced the files in the directory with my sample files.

Viola'...when I assigned the EXS sampler instrument 'Ambient Gretch' to a track...there my samples were, in the positions on the keyboard that the original instrument samples were.

Messy, but hey it worked.
