I have two External LaCie 40gig Studio Drives which are now full, and its about time I bought a new one (Im also really tired of the noise they make!) What is the best Quiet External Hard Drive available? Are the LaCie d2’s any good? And most importantly are they nice and quiet? Also, anyone using the LaCie Porshe External Hard Drives? Any good, Quiet? Thanks for your help.

I bought a d2 for live recordings... and found I really needed to get a Glyph (Companion, in my case).
Mind you, d2s are great, and I've a few I use extensively IN POST, but they put out a high-pitched whine you don't want if you're in the same room or hall as what you're trying to record.
In rare situations, I've also had luck with SmartDisk firelight bus-powered drives... if you don't need high track counts, they can be prettuy convenient and quiet!
But for a real AV-spec drive designed to be quiet, go with Glyph. Makes a big difference in live recording situations.
