Can anyone help? I am utterly new to cubase or any audio apps. I want to record from my record player into my powerbook. I have all the right cables to get it into the audio in socket, but can I record from it using cubase or do I need another piece of software? also once I have a track I want to be able to edit out loops from the tracks (ie sampling like in hip-hop) and use the samples to make new tracks....
Am I on the right track...?
Any advice will be greatfully recieved...thanks.

www.digitalvillage.co.uk, Soundhouse Turnkey at www.turnkey.uk.com, www.dolphinmusic.co.uk or any other advertiser from the Sound on Sound mag pages should be able to help. You might even be able to order direct from Peak's UK distributors (whose name I forget...). If you go to the Bias site (http://www.bias-inc.com), check it out there.

The full version of Peak is obviously the most expensive, but I can almost guarantee that you'll never need another wave editing app again. It's simply the best at what it does, IMHO. For what you seem to want to do (chop up and mutate existing recordings), it's perfect.

You can get a fully functioning trial of Peak 4 from the Bias site.
