am i wasting my time recording without one of these things?

i've invested so much money by now and time, i'm wondering if this is the final fronteer and i should really just get one.

how much of a difference will it make? is it like a big ...ahhhhhhh ?

my recordings have to sound really good now. before, i just used my computer more or less as a glorified 8track to flesh out my songwritng ideas. but i need more .

what do you all think? i have gtr center credit , or maybe i'll goto ebay if they are dramatically cheaper there...

and whats the difference b/w the 828 and the mkII?

The MkII is much better, in terms of extra features for the same price as the original 828. However, you won't find one of those cheap yet. The original 828 is still an excellent solution - good sound, lots of I/Os, FireWire etc - and you can find these for a good price second-hand. If you get one, at the very least you'll have peace of mind, as it's one less thing to worry about in your studio - it just works, fast and smooth, so you can get on with recording and mixing.
