Could it be that Mac is so egocentric that they put a CD burner in the
G4 that does not automatically produce CDs with the standard red book specs?

My guess is PROBABLY.

Does that mean that I need 'toast' to actually export music from DP3
to the G4 Burner?

Is toast the best?

DP3 saves songs in SDII format, you need to export an interleaved stereo AIFF file, and specify Audio CD when you burn, otherwise you are making a data CD.

the Toast/Jam combination allows you to do crossfades between tracks, and imbed track info(most low-end cd players don't have this feature).

I use toast in combination with Peak.

But I have used Apples burn program at school to burn Data CDs. you need to look at the documents for both apps to get the specifics.
