need digi audio filter for broadband noise, digital audio Options

Mac OS9.1. I'm using PT4.3 and a lot of plug-ins (Waves etc) but still can't get rid of some AC hum and a low level band of noise from 550Hz to 2KHz. I know on the PC side there was some apps that would take a 'DNA' snapshot of the unwanted noise and then filter it out. Is there anything like that on the Mac side? either standalone app or as a plug-in?

soundhack has a function called spectral dynamic gating. this can take a 'noise print' and gate it out of an audio file. i've had pretty good luck with it, most denoising programs/plugs are very expensive and don't offer much control but tend to work well (hyperprism ioniozer is supposedly very good and definetly very configurable, but i never could set it up to work very well), soundhack is entirely free and very configurable. though not real time.

if your on a pro-tools rig with dsp then i have no suggestions for plugs there.
steinberg has a vst plug that worked pretty well when i tried it, also as noted the included denoiser plug with spark se(?) was quite good when i tried it. it didn't look like they sold it seperately though, maybe so.

waves has a denoiser plug i've read about but not really looked into.

in general i find this program (soundhack) hard to get to gripes with. even still,i find it very usefull for all manner of utilitarian things, and as a sound creation tool.

someone on the bias-peak mailing list i'm on posted base settings that work really well on getting rid of most noise, some tweaking is still required.

take a look at the manual online for information on what the parameters affect.

How to use SoundHack as a noise reduction
tool.

I got this off the BIAS PEAK user
discussion list - sorry but I neglected to
copy the name of the person who posted it.

1. Extract a soundfile containing the noise
or hiss you are attempting to remove.

2. Load the file to be processed into
SoundHack.

3. Select Spectral Dynamics and set the
options as follows:

Gate Duck 4096 bands Lowest Band = 0
Highest Band = 4096 '3rd Octave' selected
-60dB reduction 'Use Smoothing Amplitude'
selected Below Threshold Use Soundfile For
Threshholds select your extracted snippet
Extra Threshold = 0

4. Process.

5. Obviously every file will take a bit of
tweaking to get right but it works better
than the hiss-wacking software I paid money
for.
