I was wondering what's the difference between Digital Performer 4 and Logic 6.0. I get the impression that Logic has more MIDI capabilities than DP4 and Logic seems a little bit harder to get the hang of, but can anyone tell me which program is better for different applications (ie. mainly audio production, mainly MIDI production).
thanks

Whoa, whoa folks. This is a MUCH more complex issue than one having "more extensive MIDI capabilities" than the other. They're both extremely mature, powerful, deep products with their own strengths, and neither should be taken lightly.

That said, if you want a short answer:

Logic: Deep as far as UI customization (by a lot!!), shortcut configuration, customizable interactive MIDI environments (though this is important to a very small niche), newer next-generation UI in structure(depends on what you prefer . . . see below), better scoring capabilities (though I recommend a separate piece of software), better markers support for video scoring, built in virtual instruments

DP4: The "old-school" design popular with users of Vision, better MIDI Machine Control, currently still better support for MOTU drivers under X (and some other hardware), some very nice automation controls, very accessible interface (though this is largely a matter of taste), soon virtual instrument support that will be equivalent to Logic's HOPEFULLY in 4.1, still a solid and powerful program

I have the scales tipped in Logic's favor overall, only because I think it's a bit deeper in general, some real power features. That's not to say DP4 isn't powerful by all means. Best thing to do is to watch someone (preferably NOT in sales) use each and see which approach you prefer.
