is it possible with a digi001 to use midi tracks to control audio samples without having to connect an external sampler? is there software that stores audio samples that can be used in conjunction with pro tools LE? basically, im looking for an easy way to make beats from a sampled drum kit with pro tools without having to paste audio for each note.

Digi 001 does not use REWIRE and does not support VST protocol and will not work with Reason (sort of). You can run Reason with Digi001 but sound output is horrible and it does not work with ProTools LE.

Unity (using Direct Connect) Or Digidesign Sample Cell is best bet. Actually, if you learn to use the sequencing grid and have an audiosuite plug to adjust sample length and pitch... then you can use ProTools LE just like a sampler. It just becomes a little more time consuming though.
