Hello all, I am using an Akai EWI4000 to control Wallander woodwinds in Logic Express 8. The MIDI files when I try to play them back are missing notes and have some new ones, very frustrating. The AkaiEWI sends 10 cc#'s- is it possible that coreMIDI drivers are being swamped by the amount of info and then can't play it back because they where "corrupted" when I made them? Simple keyboard MIDI files work-it's the wind controller MIDI files that don't function well-any ideas about it before I start turning off expressive capabilities?
I record the Line Out too, and it is very good-if the projects where not dependant on being able to change the Project tuning Pararmeters I could just use audio files. If one of you kind people know about MIDI would you please tell me if I'm right about the amount of data[continuous controllers] messing up the Midi files? |

I am recording one woodwind with no other instruments and no effects[compression, etc.]; I am using a PPC G4 1.5Ghz 1GB RAM Mini, through a USB Edirol UA-25-and it has supported much more than this until I got the Wind Controller. |

Okay,
you're on the bottom edge of the spec, there, i bet. can you selectively begin to thin the midi CC output from the wind controller? Perhaps do a few tests that gradually increase the density? it's been a while since i used a g4 system, and i recall midi bottlenecks appearing from time to time. the interface is probably fine, if you could arrange a test that switches it out though, i'd do that too. a quick survey of the YouTube videos demoing the EWI4000 show everybody on Intel based machines, for what that's worth. keep us updated. |

Houstonmusic, thanks again, sorry this is so late. I went and found a 2007 refurbished 20" iMac, more cpu power and lots more RAM-i had wasted several weeks trying to get Logic's score to do what the Manual says it can-last Saturday I bought Finale printmusic and know that the score can be done in it and exported to logic as Midi file-then I'll try recording the Alai EWI and see if the MIDI files work better with an iMac Intel core duo 2GHerz and 4 GB RAM-I must first learn Finale [I used it at school 30 years ago] but it HAS to be easier than logic's score editor-it's nice not to be at the bottom edge, as you so well put it , anymore as far as the Mac is concerned. I will post back when I have made some progress, thanks for the help and patience, I'm a slow learner so don't hold yer breath-I shall return. |

i admire your persistence. for me computer problem/solution adventures often come down to just trying something different, again and again. then there are the times when trying the same thing again magically works... that's irritating.

Thanks Houstonmusic, I just had to reply because my nephew the Mac specialist advised me strongly to get this machine because it already had 10.5.6 installed,; I didn't know about file and desktop sharing-but he does. Easter Sunday I called him in Houston, where it turns out he runs an Office network of 60 Mac's, and he migrated my stuff from the Mini to the new iMac. It was wonderful to see it all happen as if by automation[I wanted to type Magic-logically.] I then did what he requested and tried to write one bar of music in the score that I had not been able to get right because of Logic's low score on not always being up to date. As he watched me trying to convince the score editor that this measure had to contain these notes in this order and this position, the score editor was frantically trying to change it into something that would have been written 30 years ago in West Germany, as it had done for an entire week of 9 to 5 telling it otherwise. It worked on the fourth try-and He laughed and said he got that at work constantly, things that only work when the network manager is watching!! as you said. Plus, my Akai EWI started showing an 8.8 in the LED display, which would correspond with the way the audio file looked-attacks that sounded soft or hard on the Audio file where not the same as what the Akai was sending-I wrote to Akai and got a reply from very near Amsterdam, where the official Akai repairman lives, he said reset to factory defaults and if it still reads something in the display it must be repaired. After re-setting the Instr. it flashed an 8.8 at me for one second and then worked fine. I have now installed MIDI monitor and as soon as I have re-learnt Finale[should only take a year or two], I can send a list from the MIDI monitor of exactly what it's sending. My apologies for the verbose reply-at least I don't do it often:>) |
