Hello: if anyone could assist me please let me know. I am running Logic Pro 8 on a Mac G4 (yes, really....with leopard OS) I have leopard and logic 8 installed on the main system drive. In addition I bought a 7200 RPM 750 GB hard drive to record all of my files to. I have no problem recording, everything seems to track just fine. When I go to open the files in logic, I get errors, the waveforms do not load, and nothing plays. If I record to my system disk, everything is ok. The system records and plays back just fine. The problem there is I DON'T want to record to the system disk!

Based on that, do you know of a misconfiguration of some sort I have? If you need more information please let me know.

P.S. I can save and open any other file to this drive. For example I can use text edit and save a document to the 2nd drive. And then reopen it just fine.

Ok, here is some info: Some recordings were originally done on an eMac which operated normally within that machine. I firewired the emac and G4 together and moved them to my new audio drive on the G4. It is there they do not open. If I copy them over to the main system drive on the G4 they operate normally. If I copy them from the system drive to the audio drive on the G4, they seem to copy over to the drive just fine. But, they will not open in logic from there. When I open logic and then try to open it from the audio drive I get the error. "The document "1RealMIXEDSORTOF" could not be opened. If I then try to move the file I copied to the audio drive back to the system drive I get the error: "The finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "1 Real" could not be read or written. (Error code -36)

Ok now about the disks:

System Disk
40 GB
Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Available space: 23.75GB

Sharing and Permissions
system read and write
admin: read and write
everyone: read only

Audio Disk: *Note, I wrong before the disk is 320GB, not 750GB
320GB capacity
Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Available space: 295.15 GB

Sharing and Permissions:
JaridX (Me): read and write
staff: read and write
everyone: read only

Drive is a Western Digital Cavier SE 320GB PATA

Any more info needed? Let me know!

Hmm, 40 gig system disk? Lemme guess, did it come in the G4? Bet a buck it's 5400 rpm... Seriously. Why not install everything on your 320 gigger and get on with the tuneful melodies worry free? Quick, easy, unless you wanna run other systems (10.4, Linux), you wouldn't even have to partition it. No disrespect intended, but the day has arrived that your 40 gig Sentimental Favorite would be better suited for downloaded scientific literature and excess porn.
