Hello
Still trying to resolve this. My Mini Mac, 1.42mhz, 512ram,k 80gb (only a 4200rpm) is running Ableton 5. Problem. I've reached about 6 tracks and it's started gliching and dropping out. The 'D' lights up in the top right hand corner. I think it's because it's only got a 4200rpm hard drive, but can't decide to go for either... a) putting in a Hitachi 7K60 internal 7200rpm hard drive - £50 or b) Lacie mini+hub external firewire drive 250 gb 7200rpm - £100 Not so much the price difference, just want to get Ableton running with the most track with no drop outs. I have a gig next week so need to sort it fast. Many thanks fatsuma |

Also 512Mb ram is NOT a lot on OS-X and doing anything worthwhile. Right now while typing this on my G5-2.0 GHz double-kernel I have 272 Mb ram resident and 135 Mb active and 318 Mb inactive memory out of grand total (haha) of 5,5Gb. I only run the OS-X and Firefox just now. (your numbers will be different - but...) I would recommend at least 1Gb memory - the more the better - up to your "minis" capacity. Dont by apple-ram Apple will charge you heavily - buy third party ram from reputable makers like - Kingston, Samsung, Corsair or whatever. I actually have my G5 stocked with cheap no-brand pc DDR-II ram - they work just fine. Just check that you get the correct type of ram, SDRam, DDR or DDR-II no need to buy fast ram either unless they actually are cheaper or your mini should demand it. ( I dont think so - but check ) Cheers: Dixiechicken -------------------- ==================
Oh my god it's full of stars… --------------------------------------------------- Mac-G5-2x.2.0, OS-X 10.5.1, 250/200Gb HD - 7.0Gb ram DP-5.13, Motu 828 MK-II, MTP AV Usb, ltst drvs, Kurzweil-2000, EPS-16, Proteus-2000, Yamaha 01V Emes Kobalt monitors ================================ |
