Essentially I know the sped up soul sample is teetering on being played out and the fact that I'm now trying to learn it, only speeds that process along. Anyway, I've figured out a couple different ways to achieve this sound, all get me close, but none really get me what I'm after. There is the simple adding of the Pitch Shifter plug in or the vocal transformer and then there is the way of actually speeding the tempo up and consequently the pitch by the adjusting region to locators method, which can only speed up the sample to 60%. All of the above sort of work. But the problem is none of them sound crisp...is there a trick I don't know of? I added a high pass filter which smoothed it out a bit, but not all that much. It's a tall order, but I would love if someone could walk me through the way that they do it, if they have any little tricks or secret plug-ins/templates that they use (Native to Logic) .....I may not have the eqipment to get it pristine, but I'm fairly certain I can get it closer then where I have it now.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks All!! |

Have you tried the Pitch and Time Machine in the Sample Editor?
Basically you double click on the audio file and then go to Functions > Pitch and Time. This will allow you to change pitch without altering speed, change speed without altering pitch, or change both. I thin Kanye often uses a sample played back at a higher octave on a sampler which is easy to acheive in the EXS24. Hope this helps. -------------------- www.myspace.com/commercialmusicstudios

Hi Jim,
Thank you much for your response, very helpful and I will certainly investigate the Pitch and Time Machine later today. Also you mentioned that Kanye usually uses a sample that is just played back at a higher octave. To acheive that in the EXS24 would I first adjust the samples pitch and then load it into the EXS24 or is there a way to load it as is and then manipulate it within the Sampler? Again I really appreciate your thoughts. Thanks again! |
