Since I have had problems with my G5 2.7 including application delays (hit play button and 3 seconds later it starts), system wide freezeups, and other flukey occurrences, a tech support specialist from Synthology, the co. who developed Ivory Grand Piano Software, suggested I put all Ivory samples as well as Logic samples on a 3rd external Hard Drive. Right now I have the Mac Hard drive which holds all applications including Logic Pro and Ivory grand piano. I have another internal Hard Drive for the audio files. And I have a 3rd external Firewire drive for samples. The tech from Ivory had me drag all the Grand Piano Samples that were originally installed on the MAC Hard Drive to the 3rd FireWire Hard drive. He suggested I do the same for the Logic samples as well. He claimed that with the Grand Piano samples taking up so much CPU that having all samples on a separate drive would make my system run better and it appears to be doing so.

My question is: Does anyone know specifically which files or specific names of files within Logic contain the samples?

I'd like to move them to the 3rd drive. Is this crazy?

By default the Logic samples are installed to Library -> Apllication Support -> Logic -> EXS Factory Samples.

I've never tried running them from an external drive, I guess it is possible but I would have thought that your G5 should be able to handle running them from it's local drive especially if you already have an external drive for your audio files.

Good Luck
