hi, i just bought a dual processor g4 on ebay and it only came with OSX but i need OS9 for the version of Pro Tools software that i have. i was wondering if anyone could let me know what's the best way to get an old version of OS9 to install on my computer? thanks

rony,

sounds like you have a PowerMac G4 (Gigabbit Ethernet) Dual Processor. The original Mac OS version for that machine is Mac OS 9.0.4. You should be able to get an original set of discs from a local Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP). To find one near you, check out the "Find Apple Service" page to locate one near you if you are in the US; if not, use the Apple Support Home Page to select your country, then the Hardware and server link, then the G4 & G4 Cube link and finally the PowerMac G4 Service FAQ link to use the service locator for your area.

Sorry for the run on. Worst case scenario, if there is not an AASP in your area, you can call the Apple support line (check the support link above to find the right number for your area) and call up and request the discs be mailed to you. There is a fee for the media and shipping and handling.
