Hello guys
I’ve just purchased Mac G5 dual 2.7. I also have Mac Laptop where I was running a lot of music apps which I ‘m ready to reinstall together with some new one’s into my new Mac. I’m gonna be installing DAW like Pro tools,Abl. Live,DP And a lot of other stuff like spectrasonics products,BFD ,Kontakt,Absynth and some sample libraries. Since Dual Mac is for me a brand new thing I ‘m not sure about those two issues. 1) As far as the Mac’s HD – do I need to partition the hard disk and install certain application in certain places or do I just install DAW,plug ins and sample libraries in m”one place”? 2) As far as the dual two processors I’ve red in some posts that you can actually assign power of one processor for example to large orchestral sample library and leave another processor for the rest? Is this really possible? Hopefully my questions make at least a little sense – if not then I apologize. I would appreciate any answers. Thanks for your time Milan |

QUOTE 1) As far as the Mac’s HD – do I need to partition the hard disk and install certain application in certain places or do I just install DAW,plug ins and sample libraries in m”one place”? You don't need to partition the disk. However, it is recommended that you use a separate HD for your audio recordings because all the programs and OS are using the system disk and thus reserving bus bandwith. QUOTE 2) As far as the dual two processors I’ve red in some posts that you can actually assign power of one processor for example to large orchestral sample library and leave another processor for the rest? Is this really possible? You can adjust the task priorities and give "more power" to certain tasks if you like, but that is not necessary nor recommended as the system handles these things automatically. For instance playing a large orhcestral library does not take much CPU power, it is more a memory sensitive task. The operating system knows better where the processing power is needed and by tampering the settings you will probably only cause the system to run less efficiently. |
