Hi Folks,
Sorry if I have asked a question which has been asked a thousand times before.... I have a G3 266 on OS 8.6 with M Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard and Logic Audio Silver which works fine. I just inherited a G4 450MhZ on OSX 10.3.9. It seems Logic Silver won't work on OSX. What do I do?? The new fangled Logic Express seems to be less powerful than the old Audio Silver since it has only 12 audio tracks etc. (Audio Silver has 24 audio tracks). Can I run Silver on my G4? Would I have to install OS 9. whatever? or is there other software which would equal the power of Logic Silver???? Thanks in advance, Davie |

QUOTE Yes - I too feel that Apple should have allowed some price reduction for registered Logic users to upgrade I think the problem is that the Silver / Gold / Platinum -categories don't stand anymore. However, you can upgrade from Platinum to Pro 7. Upgrading to OS X and Pro 7 (or even Express) is well worth the money, the functionality of the system is from another galaxy. QUOTE I am aware that many people record all audio onto a separate hard drive and that it is indeed the recommended method. That is correct. It is faster when the whole bandwidth of the HD bus can be used for audio. QUOTE You say you have different OS's on these different drives. You're confusing me now! You can have OS X and OS9 on the same drive if you like. QUOTE You also say that the HD you use for audio is a FireWire drive. Is this best or should I fit a HD inside the G4 similar to the one that it already has? Depends of the speed of your machine's HD system, but I don't believe there'll be much difference in practice. Whatever you find more convinient. Go FW if you need to be mobile with your files. QUOTE Also - if I install OS9 on my 27Gig drive, can I boot up ONLY on OS9 or will Panther still be running in some way - using up valuable memory? It makes no difference in the usage of RAM if you have OS X installed on your HD or not. If you natively boot to OS 9 OS X will not be active in any way - and vice versa. |
