I have a apple dual gig that I am running with dp3 and an 896 and it keeps freezing on me. I have tried everything to fix the problem including the whole list of things motu sent me to try. I have took my computer to Macauthority here in Nashville who is an authorized apple service center and they have ran every test you can imagine and everything seems to check out fine. I got the computer back yesterday and nuked the hard drive. I re-installed os version 9.2.2 and also re-installed DP3 with all of the latest drivers for the 896. It worked for a few minutes and then immediately started freezing again. I called tech support again and talked with someone who suggested maybe installing my pci card and running from my 2408 which I did and had the same problem. I feel like I have pretty much exhausted all of my options and am at my wits end with this. I don't know what to do? I feel like I am pretty knowledgeable with all of this and do not feel like I have overlooked anything. Can you please help!

Judging from the posting date of your request, you may not need advice naymore. However, because I struggled long and hard to solve an issue like yours I will pass on what I have learned over the past several years.

The mac operating systems OS 9.2.x do not run reliably when working with DP 2.7/3.0 Revert back to OS 9.1 and see improved performance. (You will need to do a clean install of 9.1, so back up any audio projects before hand).
Additionally, (this is optional) turn off all extensions except those required to use DP. For a list, visit DP's web site. The primary benifit of this action is reduced demand on your CPU (every extension in your Ext. folder is using up precious CPU cycles). You will see the benifit in be able to use a more plug-ins before maxing out the CPU.

On a side note, I have been a devoted DP user for 12 years. However, because of persistant problems with the stability of DP on a mac I am planning to switch to a new software solution for the mac. In an effort to start cornering the music market (Apple see's this as the next step after the graphics market) Apple recently bought out Emagic. So expect software solutions in the near future (probably a years time) that are more stable and robust, and of course OSX Native!
Good luck, and keep your eyes out for the new software solutions.
