Greetings one and all.

I'm a PC user who's about to buy a new MAC G4 for a very specific purpose and I need to be certain of something before I go ahead.

My friend and I are musicians. He bought a G4 last year and since then, he's been running Emagic Logic 4.7 on OS 9.1. As the more technically minded of us, I've spent some time studying the posts in groups like this one in order to troubleshoot the various problems that creep in from time to time and, fingers crossed, my finances will soon enable me to become a proud owner of a brand new G4.
For compatibility reasons, I need my system to be as close to his as possible which is why I've hunted down an old copy of Logic 4.7. The problem is that as far as I'm aware, Logic 4.7 only works in OS 9.1 (not OXS Classic Mode) and I keep hearing that newer G4s will only boot into OSX. I was thinking of formatting the hard drive when my MAC arrives and installing OS 9.1
which I intend to buy at the same time as the MAC. However, I'm given to understand that the newer G4s are "hard wired" to OSX or something like that. Since I'm about to spend a considerable amount of money on a system who's configuration is utterly essential, I'm a tad, shall we say, worried.

Does anybody have any concrete facts that I can work with and/or informed opinions that I can make use of?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is Apple's list of what computers start up in Mac OS X only.

I'm not trying to engage in a flame war here, but I would strongly suggest to "switchers" that they do a modern, OS X switch. If cost of an upgrade is an issue, I would wait. I think it's well worth the cost/wait. OS 9, perhaps good enough, could disappoint.

Just one guy's opinion. smile.gif

If you check Apples website you'll see that the new G4:s they are selling are actually an older revision
motherboard G4 - aka they will boot into OS 9 as well as OS X.

The G5:s will boot only into OS X.
A short while this late winter/spring before the G5:s, the G4:s were OS X boot only.
