Have a look at Phatmatik Pro, great for slicing up beats. http://www.bitshiftaudio.com/products/phatmatikpro/You will need a sequencer host such as Logic, Performer or Cubase (logic is my preference and the future versions of Phatmatik will be Audio Unit only; not supported by Cubase). Have a listen to the Madonna "music" remix on the bitshift site to get an idea what it does. Also as kaboombahchuck has said have a look at Ableton Live. I've got both of them.

i agree that abelton and phatmatic are good suggestions for doing glitch as a beginner. maybe even look into running phatmatic as a vst plugin inside of Ableton Live (people often refer to Live as Ableton because the word 'Live' is such a vague dumb name for an app- just fyi). reaktor is also a good choice, but not for beginners so much- it's a program that breaks down synths and samplers into their component parts and lets you put them together like logical leggo's. it's a deep and wonderful program, but the learning curve is kinda steep and the app is expensive too. good luck! (oh jeez, i just noticed how old this thread is- the original poster will likely never benefit from my wisdom! ::sigh:

hey why dont you go pick up acopy of futuremusic, i think its this month's issue, it has an article featuring scott herren.. you know (prefuse 73, delarosa &asora, etc).. i think for the most part he uses an mpc or whatnot.. and he mentions the "tactile feeling" and a digi 002, so primarily sample based and igenuity im assuming, but anyways.. i thought that might give you some more insight into what your tryin to do.. but then again i wouldnt recommend going and getting the same setup..without trying to figure out the best option budget wise or whatnot..
