i've been running protools LE on a G4 and am about to purchase a powerbook,
is there any alternative to either the M-box(only 2 inputs)or protools LE 2(not very portable, expensive)
It's seems strange that there is no way of recording multiple tracks on a powerbook other than buying a very expensive pci chassis for your protools LE or recording into E.G logic through a motu and then importing it.

EMI 6|2 m - Emagic Multichannel Interface 6|2 $299.97 from Sweetwater. ($399 list)
(You'll need Logic for this one.)
(All FireWire options are more expensive.)

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/EMI62M/

The EMI 6|2 m is an amazing audio and MIDI interface for mobile recordings using a laptop, offering superb audio quality with mobile MIDI and USB connectivity. Based on Emagic's own proven reliable USB technology, the EMI 6|2 m requires no external power source. It weighs very little and is so compact you can practically fit it in your pocket.
The EMI 6|2 m comes with six analog audio inputs, two analog outputs at up to 24 Bit/96KHz, as well as two cinch connectors which can be configured as either a S/P-DIF in and output or as a MIDI in and output. There's also one adjustable headphone output and one USB hub with two ports. These ports can be used for additional USB hardware such as the XSKey.
It's also incredibly fast. Virtual software instruments such as Emagic's EVP88, EXS24, ES2, as well as VST2.0 compatible instruments, can be played in real-time with minimal latency. The latest Windows drivers offer incredibly low latencies down to 2 milliseconds.
Speed, connectivity, and incredible sound... the EMI 6/2m is just what users of laptop-based audio production have been waiting for.

Of course, if money is not a problem, the coolest option for Pro Tools LE on a PowerBook is the Digi002, 8-channel audio plus MIDI FireWire mixer, $2,200 from most anywhere (list is $2,500). Also works as a standalone mixer when not connected to the PowerBook.

I use a Digi001 and am facing the same choices for a potential PowerBook purchase.

Good Luck
