Alright, so lately I have been bombarded with possibilites in getting professional quality sounds from going to the kvrvst and sonic control website.
I want to know how Logic (osx 5.3) coincides with Gigasampler, Gigastudio, you know the Giga format in general and how the exs24 fits in. In order to use, like, Garritan, Spectrasonics, and mostly the good-quality but less expensive sample cd's.... will I need to get the exs24 AND the giga studio/sampler??? Will the exs24 be unessasary? or will the giga studio/sampler be unessesary? Can all sample cd's be loaded into Logic on osx (10.1.5 for now)? Why would I need the giga workstation if I already have Logic? Will the exs24 do the job of the giga studio/sampler?? I just want to know the next step..... should I just get the exs24 and get sample cd's....do they need to be in Akai format? I heard the new exs24mk11 can load giga formats.. is this true? I am all lost and undone? Does anyone here understand me? I hope I'm not confusing anyone greatly.. - Jeffro -------------------- "history repeats itself, so the best thing to do is rewrite the future"

Jeffro,
You only need to buy the EXS24 and then choose your sample library CD's you want to buy for it. The EXS24 reads sample library in Gigasampler, AKAI, samplecell and soundfont formats. Any of these libraries will be read by the EXS24 mkII whether you are on OS 9 or OS X. |

right now you cannot use akai samples with exs24mkII under OSX - cdextract (which can convert just about any sample format) might be released before emagic gets akai support into exs24.
gigasampler is not available for the mac anyways.. |

Then, all you do, is move the folder or copy the folder or place a short cut into your logic OS X folder....then use esx24 as you would in OS 9!! I use it all the time.... I have over 10 GB of akai sample cd's in esx24 for mat that I use in OS 9 and X |

you're right. I was talking about an OSX - only solution though and currently I know of no way to get an AKAI cd converted to anything exs24 will use without going into os9. sure, everyone has their converted libraries, that's a no-brainer

"you're right. I was talking about an OSX - only solution though and currently I know of no way to get an AKAI cd converted to anything exs24 will use without going into os9."
- So that was what formatj was saying in the first reply? that I have to go into os9 to be able to use an akai cd in osx? "this is not true..... cdxtract runs under OS 9, and you can make esx and aif samples with that." - could you explain how to make esx and aif samples? "Then, all you do, is move the folder or copy the folder or place a short cut into your logic OS X folder....then use esx24 as you would in OS 9!!" - what do you mean by "logic osx folder?" are you talking about the emagic folder in 'applications'? So, let me get this straight... I buy an akai/giga cd (once I get the exs24mk11) and I start up in os9, and I run cdextract. then, somehow, I make exs and aif samples of ALL of the sounds on the akai/giga cd and then I move the folder into logic osx. then, I start back up in osx and the sounds are already in my exs24? do I have to map the sounds from the cd? will the sounds just live on my desktop? I hope I explained this clear enough. - jeffro -------------------- "history repeats itself, so the best thing to do is rewrite the future"

The main website is down, and those link on linux.org dont work! could someone please provide me with a reliable link? thanks -------------------- "history repeats itself, so the best thing to do is rewrite the future"

cdextract is commercial software and not available for free I think. However, in OS9 you do not need CDEXTRACT. EXS24 in OS9 can import Akai, emagic just hasn't added that feature to the OSX version. So you can import your akais in Logic/exs24 in os9 and use the same exs-samples folder for both os9 and osx, then everything works fine. cdextract is currently in beta for osx, that's what I meant that soon you might be able to use an osx only solution. I for instance hate booting into os9 since everytime I switch between os9 and osx my multiface's firmware is replaced.

So, I don't need to make any samples of anything.
All I need to do is go into os9 and import my cd into the exs24? (will I need to put the cd into my 'sampler instruments' folder, and will I need to map the sounds with the exs24 editor?) then good, this makes it a lot easier.. on another note.. does anyone know if the exs24 mk11 works under Logic 5.3 for osx (10.1.5) I tried to contact emagic, but they aren't open until Jan.2nd, I believe..... Becuase, I think that at the emagic website, it says that exs24mk11 will come with getting Logic 5.5... and I couldn't seem to find a separate download.. I cant afford Jaguar yet!!! - jeff p.s.
