Basic Editing -how? Options

If anyone could help me solve this most basic of problems -I will be unutterably grateful!!

I have had Logic Express 7 for a while now (upgraded to 8 last week -but my emac G4 just cannot cope with that).

The problem is that I have no idea how to edit -i.e I don't know how I would go about recording -say - 8 bars of an instrument -save that -and then record another 8 bars on a seperate "take" -on the same track with the same instrument.

I have more or less been using logic as a glorified analogue 8 track. I think I could "blag" performing sections by using the loop record function -although I haven't tested that out yet.

Secondly -if someone was kind enough to help me with this -I have still not figured out how to get a "count In" -from any part of the song apart from Bar 1.

Help me solve this and you will make my year.

In the online help search under Instrument tracks, and if you are using external hardware search on that.

for virtual instruments record the midi of your performance then solo and bounce the track.

Thx for that G doubleyou -cheers and I will try that tonight.

I presently know how to record either real or virtual instruments onto Logic. What i cannot do is -say record 16 bars --lets say an intro and a verse of a bass (real or software instrument) -then save that or contain in within a region -and then start again at bar 17 working on or recording say a chorus of 8 bars -savin that and then moving on to bar 25 with both into-verse -chorus all saved and safe -and recording the second verse.

After months of trying -I just havent figured out how to do it. I"m sure it's a basic skill and an essential part of sequencing -but it remains a mystery to me. I'm more of an old skool musician -and not computer savvy at all .

Any more advice? Sorry for being so thick about this.

To do what you described in your last post, after recording your first 16 bars simply move the playhead to bar 17 and start recording your chorus. Recording should begin at bar 17, leaving your original 16 bars intact. Repeat the process by moving the playhead to bar 25 and recording your final verse. See page 380 in the manual for more info.

Regarding the count-in, I think you'll find that by moving the playhead to wherever you want to begin recording, be it bar 1 or bar 100, your count-in will play at the appropriate bar before recording begins. If you want to adjust your settings, click on the "Settings" button on the upper left and then the metronome and recording tabs to set when you want the click to play and how long a count-in you want.

Also search on cycle recording, it's where you set how many bars to record, countin leangth is in the recording settings menu.

You can also create markers that you can move to with a keystroke.
