I was in middle of recording when my g4 got "stuck" and I had to restart. I had saved a couple of times while recording was in process... I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I also tried renaming the session while recording. When I restarted, the original session was balnk (no audio files), but in the audio file folder I can still see the files. I tried importing them and it says PT cant read the files. I've also tried using differemt audio programs to open or listen and none can read them. The "lost" files take up 3Gig of space, so it seems that they are there. I've also repaired all disks, etc... still nothing.
Can anyone pleae help me figure out how to get these traks back... (it was a live concert recording so re-tracking it is not an option...) Thanks |

I'd try opening the files with audacity. It's freeware. Try this link
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ It's good at opening almost anything, look under the "project" pulldown window find "import raw data". try looking at one of those files. BE CAREFUL...keep your monitors low. You may get some seriously gnarly stuff shooting at you (try opening a text file and listening to it), but you'll be able to tell what you've got for audio. From there you can see if the end of the files are corrupted/where everything went funny. From there you should be able to trim the dead weight off, and then export the files to a new format that you can reimport into Pro Tools. It will be challenging to line up , but not impossible. USe your ears and you'll be fine best, tm |

I don't have suggestions on saving the files, but I have learned NEVER to re-name the folder or project once you record it. PT has a hard time finding the files again...
Create a folder before beginning a project, and stick with that name. Johnny |

I recently rescued some PT audio with soundhack - load in a sound and see what it says - I had to fix the headers. problems with a crash while you are recording though might not be so easy
soundhack is free. Try any other sound app you can mick |

Thanks so much for this ppl! This has allowed me to redo a session I did years ago that had corrupted itself when I zipped it. Yay!
