Have you updated your mac os recently? If so, download the Pro Applications patch from the apple site. Also renewing the mididriver and xskey-driver might help.
On the forum on the (support) apple-site is more on this issue...

Yes, This was the message I kept getting after I upgraded to ProTools 7 and OSX 4.3.1 Couldn't get a fix from Apple they kept blaming Protools When I went back to OSX.4 things smoothed out. X.4.3 is adressing Core audio in a different way. Now Logic 7.1.1 running just fine
