Midi-interfaceproblemen, MIDI en Mac Options

Ik werk al jaren met de 'goeie oude' Roland MC-500 MK II voor mijn sequencing te doen. Dat apparaat is ontworpen in 1986-1987 en bereikt dus al een enige leeftijd. Op zoek naar een vervanger dus voor al mijn archieven en concerten.
Cubase was de oplossing. Kocht mij versie VST 32/5.0 aan. Ik draaide onder systeem Mac OS 8.6 en werkte op een Performa 5300 met ondersteuning van OMS 2.3.8 en een Opcode MIDI Interface Professional Plus.
Probleem: ik kan niet met zo'n lompe lawaaimakende machine on stage en ik had een interface met 32 MIDI-kanalen nodig, dus besloot ik mij een iBook G3 aan te schaffen. Zodoende had ik geen seriële poorten meer en kocht mij een MOTU USB MIDI Interface aan. Maar ik wist niet dat USB geen hardware-handshaking protocol had en mijn MIDI-timing werd tot mijn grote ergernis volledig waardeloos (vooral bij complexe passages). Opzoekingswerk liet blijken dat enerzijds een FireWire interface de oplossing was, maar er is direct een hele audio interface bij en dat is veel te duur.
Nog verder kwam ik op het idee een gPort te laten installeren en met een tweedehandse Opcode Studio 4 of 64 te werken. Maar nee, dat kon weer niet >> gPorts kunnen namelijk niet in iBook geïnstalleerd worden.
Dan probeerde ik nog een middel: Ethernet. Ik stuur mijn LaserPrinter van Apple met een omzetter via Ethernet aan en dacht die voor mijn Opcode te kunnen gebruiken, maar die herkent hij niet.
Help, help, help, wat te doen? Dat ik het goddorie niet meer weet.
