Hi , Does anyone help me to find my MIDI devices on Logic? The manual says you have to create an enviroment but I wonder how can I find my JV880 which is on my AUDIO MIDI SETUP on my computer which should appear on my MIDI Tracks on logic. I can see all pacthes and the synth on Protools but can not find them on logic, Any help ?
Thanks.

you really should consider picking up the manual and reading more or get a Logic help book because if this is your first time working with Logic... you have much to learn because it is very complex and sort of a steep learning curve when dealing with midi... not that I am claiming you know nothing... its just a lot to grasp for most people.

essentially... there is a window that is considered your "environment" that holds the midi connections related to your computer, devices and software. You must make sure you have the midi setup correctly so that it comes into Logic... then it can be routed to any of the midi tracks in the sequencer window.

so first thing is to open the environment window and make sure you have the inputs and outputs of your midi interface setup correctly. I can't describe this in detail since I have not worked with Logic in almost a year but I did learn 95% of everything I needed to know from reading the manual and the other 5% came from a free video I got with Logic that was a "getting started video". They sell the same videos at samash.com I think or other online music retailers if you check around. cool.gif

Terrific!!!
Thanks a lot for the info about videos , manuals , etc.. In fact I am new to Logic but know about many ohter softwares Like Protools and MOTU DP4 which MIDI is not such a sofisticated matter. I liked a lot the way logic is doing , the interface is great , the virtual synths, just to name a few but when I tried to route a MIDI track to my JV880 THRU a Maudio Keystation61s I just could not find the patches and even the Synth iteself, My AUDIO and MIDI setup is working fine my MAc G4 dual 500 is working great , with MOTU, PROTOOLS so I have to study it to find out how the people at Apple came up with a so sophisticated MIDI interface for their Logic 7 Anyway THANK YOU a lot for reply. The MACMUSIC is really a great Site to come to solve anything audio/MIDI related on the net fro MAC users. Best Regards.

OK!! I have studied this MIDI Enviroment thing a lot , What I just want to know is How can I find in LOGIC the way I can import the names of sinthesizers and midi devices such as roland, korg, alesis, etc,,, the way all other sequencers offers to users? I have travelled for the midi enviroment and could NOT find YET where in the world I can find MY SINTHESIZER AND SEE ALL THE PACTHE NAMES INSIDE IT and call my prefered BASS, PIANO, BRASS, ETC.. Why the people at Logic Build such a LABIRINTH for us do find out? AND FORGIVE ME i AM NOT A NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKER. THANKS A LOT EVERYBODY.

don't be so impatient. i will put you on the right track. you can download a beta of sound diver for os x (someone help me here please). well you use to could i don't know now that for sure now (to lazy to look) smile.gif.

other wise to name your track select the text tool and click on the instrument you created in the midi instrument section in the environment. type in the name of your instrument. hit return.

to get your instrument from the environment to the arangement window, click on an audio instrument and hold the mouse button. there you will see a menu appear. select midi and then your instrument.

next you can select icons but click and holding on the icon in the parameters panel and select the best icon for your synth.

also to select the banks set your synth to program change, put a check in the box next to the word program on the parameters panel, then click and hold the number to see your choices. the first number is the bank, the second is the instrument number.

if this doesn't help i am sorry, but this is the way i know how to do what it sounds like you want. if someone could take what i am saying and make it easier for you to understand please do.

happy recording,

:Crazy : that´s all right I have already done exactly what you said Buddy but the problem is that you get a GENERIC MIDI PATCHES VOICES (TIMBRES) when you check X program next to (Program ) in the Arrange window. My question still remains unanswered : Where is my TIMBRES FELLOW? I men the timbres of my sinth in this case ROLAND JV880 THAT has the following: A01 A.Piano 1, A02 A.Piano 2, and so on...
What I need to Know is Why does the Logic doesn´t recognize my sinthesizer with all timbres and programs number , etc...? why Can I see all the timbres on Protools LE 6.4 with everything that is inside JV880 and CAN NOT SEE OR FIND IT ON LOGIC That Appears to be MORE A MIDI ORIENTED APPLI? That´s it.
THANKS, THANKS ., AND THANKS A LOT FOR THE PATIENCE.

as i recall. i do remember trying to midi up a roland drum machine once in logic.
to tell the truth i got it to work, but not before i gave up several times. roland midi gear is really tough to work. not impossible, but tough.
