Hi, I am fairly new to home recording, and i would like to use a Roland VS-880 8 Track recorder with my iBook. It is understandable that I will need additional hardware for the inputs.

Could anyone recommend and particular hardware to use for this?

Thanks, Luke

There are a few ways to make this work, some make sense..some don't :-)

VS880 is a nice little (kinda old though) recording device. You could actually record multiple tracks on the 880 and then bus them over individually into garage band through the digital coax (need an interface like m-audio audiophile to transfer digitally, without the loss of converting to analog and back).

Another option would be to sync your 880 to the computer (usb/midi adapter needed), and then use the 8 tracks in the 880 in adition to anything in garabe band. There is some trickyness in there with GB only being able to record 1 track at a time, but its possible.

Most simple application would be to make you song in the 880 and then play the mix out the digital outs, record it in GB, move to itunes, and then burn away.

Happy recording!
