I need help, I have a G4 Mac (450mhz, 27GbHD,256mb). I bought it second hand and have never used a Mac before. I bought it second hand as it has Cubase,Logic Platinum,Recycle all installed, it also has a stealth serial port fitted for MIDI. At the same time I bought the Mac I also bought a Whole load of other gear I had wanted, This includes,
Yamaha O1V,Yamaha A3000, Proteus 2000,Samson Amp,Alesis Mon Two's, I also have a lot of older Gear Drum Machines etc, 909,303,606,Minimoog,Juno 106 The list goes on. The problem is I don't know how to get my Mac linked up to help me start making the music I want to.Can someone help me. I waould prefare to use Logic in my setup, Do i need a Midi interface ? Do i need a sound card ? What about a controller keyboard? The answers to these questions and any other advice would be greatley recieved.

Cheers Paul.

It sounds like you have more than enough gear to get started.

I think your biggest problem will be the learning curve.
You have a lot of complex equipment to learn at once.

I would start with learning Midi, you can learn a lot at this site, harmony central, and the sites for Keyboard mag, and Electronic Musician.
Synthzone.com has specific info on your midi gear.

Join the Users forum for Cubase, and Logic. I'm using Cubase and DP3, Mac Cubase community can be found at cubase.net, and the VST-Mac group at Yahoo message boards.

To make things simple seperate the composition process from the recording process. Or write your tunes first, then record the digital audio.

I hope you have the manuals! The Cubase docs are a PDF file inside of the cubase folder.

You did'nt mention your audio card, but with the 01V you can get by with a digital I/O card, because your analog signal gets converted at the mixer. Making a card with analog I/O redundent.

Are you sure you don't have a midi interface?

With the stealthport you can use the older serial interfaces, or you can go with USB.

You could write a book about this subject, so go buy some books.
Hope this helps.
