Hi, i just got myself a midi keyboard, an m-audio radium 49, i was using cubase sx as a recording program without midi beforehand and now i want to add some midi tracks to some songs i have been doing

I have been mucking around trying to get it work, this is my setup

the m-audio midi keyboard
ibook 800 G3
Cubase SX

Basically all i want it to do is get what i play on the midi keyboard to come out on my speakers using cubase, I mucked about with softsynth just to check it was all working, but I want to actually be able to just use cubase to hear what i am doing, and then playback compositions

It is sending me crazy, I really cant afford any more bits and bobs!

Cubase does recognise what i am playing, the midi scores come up, but i cant get the monitoring or playback to work

thanks

martin

So your Midi keyboard is directly connected via USB? And it's all set up in Audio Midi Setup in OS X?

If you can see Midi In activity in SX, then it's working. Have you selected an instrument for the Midi information to trigger? That would prouce sound - choose something like the A1 synth or the bass synth that come with SX and you should be able to hear something. Just playing your keyboard won't make any sound - it needs to be linked to a virtual instrument.

I can't remember the exact procedure for doing it in SX, but it's fairly straightforward. Use the electronic help or the PDF manual - both cover this, I know. I think you just select a Midi track in the Arrange page (main screen), then in the far left column on the screen is the track info. Choose a Midi channel in this section and a soft synth and it should all work.

Hope this helps. Ask again if you have more problems and I'll dig out my dongle and fire up SX to check properly.
