hello tom. as for you system software, os x installs fresh versions of idvd/itunes etc. when u install new system software. idvd comes only on superdrive mac systems. i gather you imac is superdrive equipped. i would try that over the restore CDs. the first thing i would do is try to get more storage. if you play in the audio world, you'll need that space anyway, sooner or later - might as well be sooner - it will make you happy. i recently bought my second EZQuest 120GB firewire HD for $150. mind you - your audio paratition is now 35GB. with 2-3 cd worth of audio - you have plently of space. try to install only applications you know, in order to keep the system side down. you can install OSX only, on a new formatted drive, without system 9, to save more space. anything you dl from the net, goes to the sys HD by default - so pay attention. if you use this paratition for itunes music and photos - no wonder you are out of space - u just need more space. so if getting a new drive is too much, you can do some maintenance and get some more space, or reformat and enlarge your system paratition.
